1st Stop ~ Casa Del Desierto
Only 53 mores stops and 2 layover/train changes to go…
These photos were taken from the cafe/bar car door window. There was just one other passenger in the cafe, so we felt safe enough to open the window and take snap. As soon as the shutter closed a gaggle of men came up to the door and just opened it and came in–I thought we were busted for sure. Not sure what they call them in train lingo, but they seemed like “dead-heads”. That is what they call pilots that take a flight they are piloting.

what is wrong with opening a window? werent you stopped at a station? how long will the trip take you? do you have sleeping berths? are these enough questions for now?
I don’t know when they stopped letting you open the windows on the train. There are big “WARNING” sings about NOT opening any window or door or anything! There are easy to open windows on the exit doors, and we sneak every once in awhile.
It was a short stop in Barstow when we took that pic, at 10:30 at night, first stop after we got on in Victorville.
We have been in sleepers the whole way and the meals – 3 a day – are included!
The more questions the better. Thanks for playing with us Larry…we will be in SC for all of Nov, coming home first week of Dec.
