Randsburg
Now here is a town right out of the past. It’s just off U.S. Route 395 in California. Every time we drove by this town in the past, I’ve said, we really need to go and see what’s there.
We stopped once in 2003, just on the outskirts of the town. They have an old “jail” for photo ops, and we took a pic of Travis, our nephew, real fast and then kept going. It was before I had my digital camera, so I’ll have to search through the boxes of pictures I have—someday!
What’s there? Mines
There are some that are old and used up and some that seem to be still active. They seem to be everywhere, poking out the surrounding hillsides.
There really isn’t much to see, but what there is to see—mines—there are a lot of them to see!
Rand District Community Cemetery
They have a nice sized cemetery, and one of the docents of the museum told us that the cemetery was not just for Randsburg but was and is used by all the surrounding area, including Johannesburg, Garlock and Trona.
Main Street
The first building we saw had an ECV plaque on it. So now we’re keeping our eyes open for them.
There are three store fronts for sale, a barber shop, with chair, an antiques store with an old gas pump out front and one non-descript store—all for $59,000!
There are several Antique stores to browse, a bar called “The Joint”, a diner/soda Shoppe, at least two churches, the museum with a big shade tree over a picnic area to have a lunch and a quite ambiance throughout the whole town.
All in all it makes for a fun day trip, for anyone who’s into the Old West, antiques or you just want someplace to go.

UPDATE 2020
So, here we are with all this memorabilia and now we’re trying to figure out what to do with it! Most of it we’re scanning and adding to our existing Family Genealogy sites, this one and Our Clan Lore site.
Here is the postcard I put together for this town. I couldn’t find a single one in the whole town!

ive never been to Randsburg, but some of the buildings look like ones in Red Mountain on 395.
Yeah the 3 towns Randsburg, Johansburg and Red Mountain, are all within walking distance of each other and built at the same time, Randsburg is up on the hill and behind the hill, off the highway.
