After crossing the Bunker Hill Covered Bridge, built in Claremont, NC in 1895 we seem to have found ourselves in the past…we wanted to have breakfast at the “Blue Bird Diner” but the whole street was closed till 1:00p.m. No blue laws but I guess they all go to church. So we had some cold fried chicken and kept driven, we needed to make up some time, travel on the Blue Ridge Pkwy is leisurely at best, it took us 4 hours to get 40 miles
That’s slow even for us.

Hey! Wellll nowww. Let me think. If you went thru the Bunker Hill Covered Bridge built in Claremont NC, then I would guess you are now in Claremont. To get to Claremont, you probably came up Hwy 321, out of Columbia. I hope you got to see Bowling Green SC before crossing the stateline into Crowders, NC. I also hope you went thru Hickory NC. this is the hometown of John Reep, (from this past summer hit Reality show: “Last Comic Standing!”) One of John Reep’s laughline was: “The American Flag is a Redneck Flag. The colors stand for: Redneck, White Trash, Blue Collar.”
Hey! Who is that guy in the white t-shirt standing in front of you? That’s him in the window next to you. I guess not everyone was in church, ‘acause someone had to take the foto, so I guess White-shirt is next to photographer.
When we took this picture I told Lei that Larry was sure to get it. But with all your research Larry, it must be that we didn’t make the picture big enough, click on the picture to enlarge it and you will know the answer.
The white T-shirt guy was another tourist waiting his turn and giving us tips on how to set up our camera, we always use a timer for these shots, and this guy was making it very embarrassing with the whole hat thing, he didn’t seem to notice though.
Right before us, an elderly biker gang was taking their pics and a hooten and a hollerin havin a great time.
Well, I see you are in front of Floyd’s Barbershop; which could be taken from the Andy Griffith Show, that would put you in Mayberry NC. Right?
The Answer:
Once we gave up on the Blue Ridge, the fastest way north to Virginia was up the 77. We wished, when we were planning our trip that we were traveling closer to Mount Airy, North Carolina, the childhood home of Andy Griffith, and the town that claims to be the inspiration for “Mayberry”. Now with the plan change, we didn’t have to miss this must see attraction.
I wish I realized that in this picture we cut off the sign for the “Snappy Lunch”, the “diner” where Ange and Barn would “do lunch”, the “Blue Bird Diner” where Barney’s Lady Friend, Juanita, worked was just up Main Street.
 What the Hey! So, you went to Virginia, huh? What did you plan to see there, and did you get to see it? Virginia, “the land of the virgins?” I’ve never seen that part of the country (midwest to east coast) only what’s along the Interstate 10 corridor to Florida.
 Hey! ain’t this “Snappy?” I was just going thru the link from “The Crime Wave” to the story of The Andy Griffith Show where I found mentions of the hometown of AG, Mount Airy. There I saw about Floyd’s City Barber Shop and the Snappy Lunch Diner, which is right there in your pic above. So you did get to Mount Airy! I know you wwere concentrating on TAGS memorabilia, but did you hear about that mansion up in the hills OOOPS! I started to tell about the Biltmore Estate in the hills, but that is in Asheville, not Mount Airy. I had to backtrack thru Emails and then I found it at Apple Vally/Branson with my note of the Biltmore. SOOOO, thank you for the Barney-bit. I wouldn’t have found the clues to M Airy. I wanted to comment on Barney’s Crime Wave, but where? OK, then.
