It’s hard to believe it’s been half a century, since the “California ’71 Earthquake”! I was 16 and lived in Sylmar. We have been going through all of our memorabilia for the past year and put aside several of the magazines and articles that were saved from “the earthquake”. I decided to scan one of the magazines and make a flip book to share here.

I’m not sure what makes us want to “remember” such terrible and frightening events in our lives. To read my original rememberances that I posted in 2008 in “Where Were You – February 9th 1971?” Looking at all the photos really brings the memories back in a flood.

My husband Randy found a LP recording of the KGIL AM1260 radio broadcast on the morning of the quake. Now that really took me back! It’s interesting to hear how reporting news has changed.

He also found a short documentary of the event and how it was handled. You can read Randy’s rememberances at Our Clan Lore website in his post “The Longest Day – February 9th 1971” He has not only his memories but his mom Pat’s and sister Lynne’s memories too!
