We don’t know where our cat Tabbitha came from, she just showed up one day. She is the friendliest cat and loves to be pet, but she isn’t a very good indoor cat, there is something very wild about her still. She’s a very good mommy cat though. She was showing interest in Old Dan’s doghouse, before she had her kittens, so we made a safe place for her to have her kittens in there. But in the end she decided to have them in the garage on Randy’s work-bench behind a stack of tools, in some sawdust from the radial-arm-saw. In the pictures that is what you see all over the kittens. We’ve had a lot of cats and kittens here during the 18 years in June, that we’ve been here. We learned you can’t really get attached to them because they wander off for one reason or another. The two big Pixie Cats that were here when we came back from S.C. have been here for over a year, we think they are offspring of some cats we had before we went to S.C. in 2007, one looks like a cat we used to call Sox, but there is no telling if that is the same cat. Tabbitha came shortly after we got back last August. All that said, I’m getting very attached to her and now her kittens. One of them looks black with a white star on it’s head, white neck and white feet, but in the pictures it seems there is a little stripping in the black, I want to keep that one and see if it can be trained to be an indoor cat. Two look like the father(s), which look like Tabby striped cats, and one is an all blackish gray colored. I will be very sad to see any of them go.
I got the “Pixie Cat” term from a neighbor, he lives in the gorge behind our water tower. He was out hiking with his two sons and stopped by to chat with us one day while we were chopping down a couple of our dead trees. He used the term pixie cat to describe our cats. Everything I read about these cats seems like a made up breed to me, but it is a colorful term and interesting story.

Here is Tabbitha just a few days before she had her kittens. I know she had a least one, it was very dark and had stripes like the father. I will wait a few more days before I start “pawing” around looking for more. We’ve also decided to name the cat that we think is the father…Quasimoto.

Tabitha is getting used to us, and learning how to behave in the house. She likes sleeping with Rabbity and Racoony. She puts up with Nim and his incessant “playing”. She always smells of pine. It’s as if she has been packed in a truck full of Christmas trees, she must hang out in the pine trees when she’s out side, I think she does that to keep away from Nim and Sox.
Nim thinks Sox and he should be friends. Right after I took this picture Sox sauntered off, as if he just couldn’t be bothered. We were surprised he didn’t do some real damage to Nim. He is very muscular and we have no idea what he’s been eating…coyotes maybe! We’re not exactly sure it is Sox, if it is he would be at least 3 years old, which is ancient, for being an outdoor cat here in coyote country. There is another cat even bigger than him that lives with him in the garage/barn. That cat gives me the creeps, they’re related and probably came from one of the last litters of Samwise Gamgee (he turned out to be a she). As for Sox & Nim being friends I don’t think Sox is interested…he is however very interested in Tabitha!

Tasha and Travis picked up this cute kitten for us, from Stater Bros. (that’s where we get all out kittens). So far he/she has adjusted very well, and acts like it was born here. There is another cat hanging around the property…looks like maybe a descendant of Sox and Sam. I’m trying to get a picture of it, but it is very wild.

We got back last night from our working trip in Pittman Valley, just past Williams, AZ. We stayed, in Williams. It’s a cool little town; check out our reviews about the sites and eateries.
Only three little kittens came running to us as soon as we got out of the truck, like Old Dan used to. Of course they were the ugliest ones, Frank, Fugly and Precious.

We have seen mama kitty BooBoo, but not the two remaining kittens, Gordo and Princess.

Our first kitten to go missing, we haven’t seen Dart for 3 days. Coyote bait probably. We are going out of town to wire a custom home for a week, so we will likely be Kittenless when we return.

As I was adding some things to my blog today, I came across the pets, and realized there were only pictures of the new kittens. So I decided to put a link to
Old Dan’s page
, he was and still is our favorite pet. We miss you Old Dan.

I think I’m making progress on the cabinets. I only have 4 doors and 2 roll-out shelves that have don’t have any coats of varnish on them! All the rest, 12 drawers, 6 doors and 5 roll-out shelves all have 2-4 coats on them, the cabinet frames and the island has 4 or more coats on them. I’m glad I went with a water base Varathane, and spent the money on a good brush.
We’ve been misting the grout every so often, so that it dries slowly (going to get a grout haze remover tomorrow). Still looks good! As I get more of the drawers into the cabinets I am so happy with our “New Cabinets” and all that goes with them. The windows look really good.
Did some clean up today and reorganized all the tools and materials we’ve gathered for the project. Getting ready to put up the new redwood trim and new siding. Randy had already painted trim with primer and I got a coat of the stain on. The siding is already primed. We learned a lot the first time around, that’s for sure. Randy got the scaffolding up by the back door and part way down the stairs……..it looks very hairy/scary, but it is very steady. He started taking down the fascia boards and putting up the backing he needs to put up the new siding. We have been looking at craftsman-designed homes for, well a long time. We have found the design for the corbels we both like! I just realized that we found them on a house that is across the street from the guy that built our cabinets! That’s a little weird, but then it just shows how you should always be looking anywhere and everywhere for the answer, when you’ve asked for help.
I took a slew of pics of the kittens today. They were playing in a pile of leaves I had just raked up. They looked like they were having so much fun. Even mama kitty BooBoo jumped in with them…..it looked like she took them for a walk after that. I’ve never seen that, well in cartoons maybe.
As I’m writing this I see why my back hurts, I didn’t mention all that we did today either, I need to go lie down.
